The Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Guide Veronika Kusa and Kyla Forsyth

A visual to show tips, tricks and considerations for navigating and experiencing a Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) programme

    Advice for reuse

The visual guide titled Guide for UTAs, is created to support Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTAs) in developing confidence and effective practice when facilitating small-group learning, delivering slides, supporting practical classes, and offering general study guidance to peers. The artefact presents a clear, user-friendly set of strategies organised into four key areas: Small Groups, Delivering Slides, Practical Classes, and General tips to give. It concludes with a reflective section outlining the Gains from being UTA, helping students understand the personal and professional benefits of engaging in teaching–related roles. The artefact is designed to be both informative and purposeful, allowing colleagues to integrate it into UTA induction sessions, peer-mentoring training, practical-class briefings, or as a scaffold for developing discipline-specific guidance resources. Its visual layout makes it suitable for embedding in workshops or handbooks, and it can be easily adapted for different cohorts or teaching contexts
